The arid air of the blustery desert is a feeling that is oftentimes better experienced than explained. The sun’s beams feel like warm kisses from a flame, but without the dreadful humidity, it’s far more palpable. The soft sand gently gives way under your feet and with a handful of the tiny crystals, you can watch it fall through your hands like sands through an hourglass. There’s nothing for miles yet there’s so much to see. The warm breeze draws curves in the landscapes which creates the most beautiful artwork in contrast to the deep blue sky. Dangers lurk everywhere yet keeping a calm mind and using educated thought will ensure that you safely enjoy all the tranquility the desert has to offer and witness the secrets that it’s willing to show you.

I often journey into the forest to collect my thoughts and find inspiration in nature. I walk in by myself although I’m never alone. The forest is very alive and full of natural mystery. If you take the time to let her speak to you, she may just show you some of her secrets. The canopy blots out the vibrant sun, leaving only holes of light poking through the leaves. The animals who live here play and chase each other across the leaf-ridden forest floor while others scavenge for food to the tune of the howling wind. The babbling creek will tell its stories to any ear willing to listen. I always find it funny that when I come out here, it’s to take a break from my regular life and enjoy the peace and solitude of nature, but when I’m here, I often forget just how alive it can be.

There’s something peaceful about watching fireflies dance among the dark summer skies. The sounds of tree frogs fill the air and a cool breeze evicts the humidity leftover from the day. With cell phones and technology, many people are missing out on the tranquility of summer nights, while others may have never had the opportunity to experience it yet. Perhaps some never will., although I highly recommend it. The way the moon highlights everything that it touches and the plethora of twinkling stars overhead provides just the right amount of ambient light to set off the whole mood. Here’s to those endless summer nights.
